Peptides For Immunity

Immune system research spans everything from T-cell development to tissue-level inflammatory response — a few peptides show up repeatedly across this literature, some purpose-built for immune signaling and others studied here for a second reason beyond their primary use case.

Compounds commonly studied for immunity research

  • Thymosin Alpha-1 — A 28-amino acid peptide originally isolated from the thymus gland, the organ responsible for T-cell maturation. Extensively studied internationally as an immune modulator (marketed as Zadaxin/thymalfasin in dozens of countries for chronic hepatitis B/C and as a cancer treatment adjunct) — not FDA-approved in the US, and the FDA restricted it from compounding pharmacies in 2023 alongside 21 other peptides. Research broadly frames it as helping the immune system respond more appropriately, rather than simply “boosting” it.
  • BPC-157 — Cross-listed from our Building Muscle and Longevity pages: alongside tissue repair research, BPC-157 has separate research interest in gut barrier integrity and modulation of inflammatory signaling.
  • TB-500 (Thymosin Beta-4) — Also cross-listed: beyond tissue regeneration, TB-4 is studied for its role in modulating inflammatory response during the repair process itself.
  • LL-37 — A naturally occurring human antimicrobial peptide (cathelicidin), studied for its broad-spectrum activity against bacteria, fungi, and viruses, as well as its role in wound healing and innate immune signaling.
  • KPV — A tripeptide fragment (Lysine-Proline-Valine) derived from the C-terminus of alpha-MSH, studied for anti-inflammatory effects — particularly in gut and colitis-related research models, independent of alpha-MSH’s pigmentation effects.
  • ARA-290 (Cibinetide) — An 11-amino-acid peptide derived from the tissue-protective domain of erythropoietin, engineered to activate anti-inflammatory “innate repair receptor” signaling without EPO’s red-blood-cell-stimulating effects. Phase II trials showed benefit in sarcoidosis-associated neuropathy; no Phase III trials were completed. Not FDA-approved.
  • VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide) — A 28-amino-acid neuropeptide studied for its immunomodulatory role, including modulation of lymphocyte activity and anti-inflammatory signaling in conditions like COPD and sarcoidosis. Not FDA-approved as a standalone therapy.
